COVID-19: Thursday update for Abilene, Taylor County, the Big Country – Abilene Reporter-News

Hendrick Health on Wednesday reported 62 COVID-19 inpatients at its three facilities, with 20 in ICU. On Tuesday, there were 69 COVID-19 inpatients, including 22 in ICU. 

The breakdown Wednesday by facilities was 56 inpatients at the Abilene hospitals (17 in ICU), and six at the Brownwood hospital (three in ICU). 

Of the 62 Hendrick COVID-19 inpatients, 52 were not fully vaccinated, while 18 of the 20 ICU patients were not fully vaccinated.

SCHOOLS, COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES

Abilene ISD: Reported Wednesday nine new cases (seven students, two staff members), which is two fewer than Tuesday. New cases by campus: one student at Cooper High, two students and one staff member at Madison Middle, two students at Bassetti Elementary, two students at Taylor Elementary and one staff member at Long Elementary.

Active cases total 76 (52 students, 24 staff members), compared to 78 Tuesday. Since Aug. 3, the district has reported 1,142 cases (925 students, 217 staff members).

Wylie ISD: Reported Wednesday four new cases (three students, one staff member). Active cases total 19 (16 students, three staff members), which is four more reported Tuesday. 

Active cases by campus: One student at Wylie High, one student at West Intermediate, two students at East Junior High, two students and one staff member at West Junior High and 10 students and two staff members at East Elementary. 

Abilene Christian University: Reported Wednesday zero new cases, with four active cases, one fewer than reported Tuesday. Five people are in quarantine due to possible exposure. Of the active cases, 50% are unvaccinated. Cumulative cases since Aug. 17 total 156.
