WESTFIELD — Mayor Michael McCabe questioned Friday why Westfield was not included in the list of cities and towns in Massachusetts that received a share of 2.1 million COVID-19 test kits distributed by the state last month.
The administration of Gov. Charlie Baker had announced the distribution of the kits to102 cities and towns across Massachusetts in December. The list, which covered less than a third of the state’s municipalities but more than half of its population, was said to be based on the percentage of a town’s residents who are below the poverty line.
While Southwick and some neighboring communities received test kits, Westfield did not.
