Russian diplomat to UN resigns more than war

A veteran Russian diplomat to the United Nations business in Geneva claims he has handed in his resignation before sending out a scathing letter to international colleagues inveighing versus the “intense war unleashed” by President Vladimir Putin in Ukraine.

Boris Bondarev, 41, verified his resignation in a letter delivered on Monday morning at the Russian diplomatic mission immediately after a diplomatic formal passed on his English-language assertion to the Linked Press.

“For 20 years of my diplomatic vocation I have observed unique turns of our overseas coverage but under no circumstances have I been so ashamed of my place as on February 24 of this year,” he wrote, alluding to the day of Russia’s invasion.

Asked if some colleagues felt the same, he included: “Not all Russian diplomats are warmongering. They are realistic but they have to continue to keep their mouths shut.”

Bondarev informed the AP that he had no options to leave Geneva.

Hiller Neuer, govt director of the advocacy team UN Observe, explained: “Boris Bondarev is a hero.”

“Bondarev must be invited to speak in Davos this 7 days,” he included, “and the US, the United kingdom and the EU need to lead the absolutely free planet in creating a application to inspire much more Russian diplomats to adhere to and defect, by providing security, fiscal protection and resettlement for diplomats and their people.”
